HOLEP Surgery

Holmium Lazer Prostat Enükleasyonu

HoLEP (Holmium Laser Prostatectomy) is a modern, minimally invasive surgical technique used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). As the prostate gland enlarges with age, it can press against the urethra, making it difficult to pass urine. The HoLEP procedure enables the precise removal of this excess prostate tissue using a holmium laser.

No incisions are made in the skin during the procedure. Access is gained via the urethra, and the enlarged prostate tissue is separated using a laser; it is then broken up using specialised instruments and removed from the bladder.

Who is HoLEP suitable for?

HoLEP surgery is an effective treatment option for patients experiencing the following symptoms:

Frequent urination

Frequent night-time urination

Difficulty starting to urinate

Weak urine flow

Intermittent urination

The sensation that the bladder has not been completely emptied

Difficulty passing urine

Urinary retention (inability to pass urine)

Recurrent urinary tract infections

Mesane taşı gelişimi

Large prostates

HoLEP is one of the few surgical techniques that can be performed regardless of prostate size.

The Benefits of HoLEP Surgery

HoLEP offers many advantages over traditional prostate surgery:

No incision is required.

The risk of bleeding is very low.

It can also be safely used in cases of enlarged prostate.

The length of stay in hospital is short.

It promotes faster recovery.

The likelihood of requiring a repeat operation is low.

It delivers successful results over the long term.

It can also be used in suitable patients who are taking blood thinners.

How is HoLEP Surgery Performed?

The operation is carried out under general or spinal anaesthesia.

The prostate tissue is accessed using a specialised endoscope inserted through the urethra (urinary tract). The enlarged prostate tissue is separated from the capsule using a holmium laser. This tissue is then drawn into the bladder, where it is broken down into small pieces using a specialised device before being removed.

The duration of the operation generally varies between 60 and 120 minutes, depending on the size of the prostate.
